Ocicat Origin

The Ocicat, is a beautiful short haired cat with spots. The Ocicat was named for its resemblance to the wild cat, the Ocelot, but there is no lineage to wild cats at all. In fact, it was originally bred from the crossbreeding of  the American Shorthair cats and an existing crossbreeding between a Siamese cat and an Abyssinian cat in the mid 1960s.

Ocicat Physical Characteristics

It is a large, active, athletic cat with strong musculature which is shown off to great advantage due its satin like, close to the body, short haired coat. Despite its wild cat looks with its distinctive coat and longer hind legs, appearances can be deceiving, and are in the case of the Ocicat, as aggression is just not in its nature.

Ocicat Cat Behavior / Temperament

It is a bit like a pet dog in personality as it is loving, loyal and playful, it can even be taught to play “fetch”. The Ocicat enjoys company immensely, so if no-one is home during the day, it would be a good idea to have other pets around for company. SThis feline would really suit a family.

Ocicat Cat Colors

As its DNA history (remember its ancestors include Siamese, Abyssinian and American Shorthair cats) would suggest, the Ocicat comes in many colors, the spots can include variations on blue, chocolate, cinnamon, fawn, lavender and tawny on a lighter background color which can be silver.
